Kari Mee (Dry)

Ok, if you are born Malaysian-Chinese, you’d mostly have this somewhere along your life. If you haven’t, please go back and confirm your birth cert accuracy.

Kari Mee, means a bowl of piping hot spicy soup with mee, bihun or maggi mee, plus meat and some lemak-ness to it. Now, this version is the dry type, where the soup is much less, and there is additional thick soy sauce added in to enhance the flavour.

So, this shop is located oppositeĀ the “old-&-no-more” operating cinema in Kulim. It’s open early in the morning till around 11+. What’s classic is, the couple running & selling this dish have beenĀ at it for more than 20 years and they previously run a shop under a huge tree.

So what better way to start my morning by ordering the “Dry Kari Maggi”. Topped with a few slabs of pork skin that have been cooked until it’s soft as tissue. They will pour a good amount of thick curry with a lot of lemak from using santan, on top. And you must simply request for a bigger spoonful of their special chili which enhances the curry-ness altogether.

Mix it all together really well, and dine away! The sweet, bit spicy curry sauce will awaken your taste buds instantly. Take another bite, and feel the soft pork skin that have absorb all the curry flavour…they just melts in your mouth. Awesome!!
